Zambia and Switzerland are set to announce their first Mitigation Outcome Purchase Agreement (MOPA) for the first identified mitigation activity. The Swiss Foundation for Climate Protection and Carbon Offset (KliK Foundation), mandated under the Swiss CO₂ Act, is responsible for identifying and financially supporting suitable greenhouse gas mitigation activities under Article 6.2 in Zambia that are additional to Zambia’s own climate targets. To make these activities financially viable, the KliK Foundation offers result-based financing through the purchase of the resulting emission reductions in the form of carbon credits, so called Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs).
